FounderFuego® went to Google to Work with the Gemini Team

When the Right Opportunity Shows Up, Make Room

Some opportunities arrive with months of lead time, detailed agendas, and plenty of space to prepare.

Others arrive with a message that essentially says: “Can you make this work?”

Recently, FounderFuego® CEO Amber Tarrac and Chief Learning Officer Richard Lopez received one of those messages.

We were invited to join a panel at Google and share a conversation with approximately 90 executives from the Gemini team.

The catch?

It was short notice.

Our calendars were already full. There were client commitments, FounderFuego® priorities, meetings, deadlines, and all the normal moving pieces that come with running and growing a business.

We cleared our calendars.

And we made it happen.

Knowing When to Say “Yes”

We talk a lot at FounderFuego® about boundaries.

Sustainable growth requires saying “no”. No to opportunities that distract from the strategy. No to work that doesn't align. No to filling every available hour simply because someone asks for it.

But discernment isn't about becoming really good at saying “no”.

It's about becoming really good at knowing what deserves a “yes”.

There are moments when an opportunity aligns so clearly with where you're going, who you serve, and the work you've spent years building that making room for it is the strategic decision.

For us, this was one of those moments.

Being invited into a room at Google wasn't something that appeared out of nowhere. It was connected to years of showing up, building relationships, developing expertise, serving entrepreneurs and organizations, and being willing to contribute when the opportunity presented itself.

The invitation may have been sudden and the readiness most definitely wasn't.

While the Conversation Stays in the Room, the Lessons Don't Have To

We're intentionally not sharing the substance of what was discussed with the Gemini team. We were invited into that space with an expectation of confidentiality and honoring that trust matters more than turning a private conversation into content.

But the experience reinforced a few lessons that apply to almost every founder and business leader.

Build before you're invited. You rarely know which relationship, project, speaking engagement, introduction, or body of work will lead to the next opportunity. Credibility compounds quietly.

Leave some room for the unexpected. A completely maxed-out business has very little capacity to respond when something extraordinary appears. Capacity isn't just about taking on more work. Sometimes it's about having enough flexibility to pursue the right work.

Know your strategic yes. Not every impressive invitation is the right invitation. The question isn't simply whether an opportunity is exciting. It's whether it advances the relationships, reputation, expertise, impact, or direction you're intentionally building.

Be ready before you feel ready. Short-notice opportunities don't always give you time to create a new version of yourself for the room. You have to be able to walk in with the experience, perspective, and preparation you've already built.

And perhaps most importantly:

Protect the trust that got you into the room.

Not every experience needs to become a case study. Not every conversation needs to become a LinkedIn carousel. Sometimes credibility grows because people know they can invite you into important spaces and trust you to understand what stays there.

What Are You Building Toward?

The Google invitation was a great moment for FounderFuego®. But the bigger takeaway isn't about Google.

It's about readiness.

The goal isn't to chase every opportunity that looks impressive from the outside. It's to build a business with enough clarity to recognize the right opportunities, enough capacity to act on them, and enough credibility to be ready when they arrive.

Because sometimes growth means protecting your calendar and saying no.

And sometimes the right opportunity lands in your inbox, you look at the calendar, and say:

We'll make it work.

That's what we did.

And we're very glad we did.

If you're building a company that needs to be ready for its next level of opportunity, FounderFuego® helps business owners strengthen the funding, revenue, partnerships, marketing, people, operations, and growth systems behind sustainable growth.

Are You Positioned for the Right Opportunities?

The right opportunities rarely happen by accident.

They are built through credibility, relationships, strategic positioning, and consistently showing up in the right rooms long before the invitation arrives.

If corporate partnerships, strategic relationships, speaking opportunities, or greater visibility are part of where you want to take your business next, let's look at what it would take to position you for them.
